Additionally, the introduction of the OpenGL and DirectX APIs made it easier for developers to create games and other applications with advanced graphics.

At the beginning of the 2000s, NVIDIA and ATI—later acquired by AMD—intensified their competition by releasing increasingly powerful and sophisticated graphics cards. The market was dominated by the GeForce series from NVIDIA and the Radeon series from ATI. Each company released new models each year with more memory and more powerful graphics processing units (GPUs).

Graphics cards today have more power than ever before, making them able to handle even the most demanding applications and games. The rise of cryptocurrency mining has resulted in an increase in the demand for graphics cards that are capable of processing large amounts of data. As a result, they are no longer limited to business and gaming applications.
